Valerie Morinville obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba.She obtained a Masters of Social Work from CarletonUniversity.Social work is a second career for Valerie, which she has been practicing since 2000.
Valerie is a registered social worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
Valerie has over 25 years experience working with military families and the unique challenges this lifestyle creates for individuals and families.
Valerie’s practice focuses on providing therapy to couples - both those who are contemplating separation or divorce, and those who are not considering separation but are faced with difficulties that keep them from enjoying their marriage.
Valerie’s practice also focuses on providing therapy for individuals aged 16 and over who are faced with depression, loss or bereavement, anxiety, relationship issues, or parenting difficulties.Valerie occasionally facilitates bereavement groups.
As well, Valerie conducts custody and access assessments.These assessments are completed from a social work perspective with the goal of making recommendations to the court in the interest of the children involved.All assessments are done from a non-biased position and both parents must be in agreement of the assessment being conducted.
Valerie pursues professional development through annual conferences, workshops, self-study (including review of current research regarding assessment and treatment issues), and through supervision and peer consultation.
